Dr. Van Ginkel has been with Student Government Student Media (SGSM) since August 2010 and at UC Irvine since 2007, where she oversaw the New University newspaper. She is responsible for the operational oversight of the umbrella organization, SGSM, and advisement of five Student Governments and five Student Medias as well as the campus shuttle system, Anteater Express.
